Pastor Melton Timmons
was born to the Late Dewey Timmons and Rosie M. Timmons
on March 28, 1959 in Gladewater, Texas.
Elder Timmons served as Sunday School teacher, YPWW
teacher, Youth Dept. president, and a Deacon at his home
church, Rising Star COGIC, Gladewater, Texas, under the
leadership of Supt. C.H. McNeece. He accepted his call
to Ministry in 1979 and was licensed a Minister in 1981.
He was ordained as an Elder in 1982 and appointed to the
Rocky Mound COGIC, Pittsburg, TX by Bishop J. Neaul
Haynes.
In 1985, Bishop Haynes appointed Eld. Timmons to the
Hayter Chapel COGIC, Longview, Texas, and to the
Jurisdictional Adjuantacy. He worked on the District
level as the YPWW president, Chairman of Finance and
District Secretary.
Upon the elevation of Dr. David Houston to the bishopric
in 1990, Bishop Houston appointed Timmons as
Superintendent of the Pittsburg District and
Jurisdictional Executive Secretary. On July 10, 2005,
Supt. Timmons was appointed pastor of the Jones Valley
Community COGIC, Tyler, Texas and Superintendent of the
David R. Houston District.
Supt. Timmons serves on the Executive Committee, Trustee
Board, and Finance Committee of the Texas Northeast 2nd
Jurisdiction. He is also the Regional Director for the
General Secretary’s Office, Memphis TN for Region 17
which covers East Texas.
He is an associate with Dearion/Davis Funeral Parlor,
Gladewater, Texas and the CEO and Publisher of the Ebony
News Journal, a community newspaper covering East Texas.
Pastor Timmons is married to Missionary LaQueta Freeman
Timmons and they share their lives with their children;
Marquel, Marcel, Marquez, Chasity and Marketta.
He shares the ministry with two siblings; Supt. Donnie
Timmons, pastor of the Shady Grove COGIC, Rusk, TX and
Evangelist Joyce L. Rodgers, Chairlady of the
International Youth Department COGIC. |
